Interview Deal Breakers

Have you ever left an interview and thought “that went really well!” yet still you’re unemployed or stuck in the same job, leaving you wondering “What went wrong?”

Hiring managers said the following behaviors/characteristics strongly impacted their hiring decision during the interview.

 

Asking about vacation or time off prematurely – 15%

Acting or speaking overly casual – 18%

Dressing too casually – 27%

Bringing a drink or sometimes even food to the interview – 31%

Cellphone ringing or interrupting interview – 40%

Talking negatively about your previous job – 42%

Talking negatively about your previous boss – 49%

Being late for the interview – 58%

And the highest ranking “deal breaker” is……drum roll please!…….

 

Dressing too provocatively – 67%

So remember, you want to stand out, but in a good way. Arrive early, dress to impress, remain friendly, be professional and always display confidence. The more interviews you go on, the better you will get at them, so take a deep breath, shake off the failed attempts and get back out there! Use this inside information to your advantage!
